The official chronicler of Vilanova de Arousa, Benito Leiro, will be the town crier of the 31st Mussel and Cockle Festival. The official act of this event will take place tomorrow at 1.30 PM in the O Castro Square.
In addition to the proclamation itself, the Gold and Brilliant Badges of the Town Hall will be awarded. On this occasion, in the words of the Mayor, Gonzalo Durán, it was decided to pay tribute “to the local hotel and catering sector, which forms a fundamental part of the projection of the municipality.” Thus, the awards will go to Benilde Varela Paulos (O Lourancho de Baión); Luis Lorenzo Oubiña (Hotel Camping Arco Iris), and Óscar Luis Casaldarnos Alonso (Bar Restaurante Faro da Lúa). All three are consolidated professionals in the sector and, with this recognition, the aim is to highlight their good work.
The big day of the 31st Mussel and Cockle Festival will begin at 10.00 a.m., with the last day of the 21st Local Commerce Fair of Opportunities, in Avenida de O Recheo. At 12.30 p.m., there will be parades of the Mekánika Rolling Band. Meanwhile, the gastronomic tent will open its doors in the O Castro Square, offering a variety of dishes at popular prices.
The finishing touch to the celebration will be provided by Roi Casal. His performance will take place at 9 PM in the Jardín Umbrío.
Resounding success with Panorama
For its part, the festive programme was a great success last night, with thousands of people coming to the Parque de O Cabo to see the show of the Panorama Orchestra. Once again the group had a full house, giving a performance that encouraged the large audience to dance, sing and, above all, have a good time.
Today’s date with tradition is reserved for today. At 7 PM the procession in honour of the Carmen Virgin will take place. The image of the patron saint of the people of the sea will leave the church of San Cipriano for a brief stop at the Maritime Station Mar de Santiago. From there, it will be accompanied by dozens of decorated boats and a brass band to the O Seixo lighthouse, where a wreath will be laid in memory of the victims of the sea.
In the evening, it will be the turn of the renowned group Milladoiro, who will bring their folk rhythms to the Plaza del Castro. The performance will start at 10 PM and admission is free.
